Tonight: A few scattered showers are possible south of St. Louis, but otherwise cloudy skies and above-average temperatures are expected.

Tuesday (Christmas Eve): Look for patchy, dense fog in the morning. We may see a few showers to the south, but these will slowly move north, clipping metro St. Louis during the mid to late day and into the evening. Some areas in the northwest will not see much rain as there will be a sharp break, but at this time we expect the rain to smother the St. Louis metro and it will be heavier in the south/southeast.

Wednesday (Christmas): Rain showers will continue on Christmas morning and ease into the afternoon. However, there may be some persistent drizzle throughout the day. However, the steady rain is over as temperatures will be slightly above normal in the upper 40s.

What’s next: Friday through Saturday will see more warming with highs near 60°, but there will also be another chance of rain. Rain may begin Thursday evening and there may be intermittent rainfall through Saturday. The models haven’t quite agreed on the details of this second round of rain, so stay tuned as we optimize the timing for you.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve: We are seeing signs of a system that could bring some precipitation to the region on Tuesday, although the latest timing suggests it will clear again on Wednesday, New Year’s Day. It’s still too early to plan around and we’ll see some big changes, but we’ll keep you updated as Model Trensteveds focuses on precipitation probabilities that could impact your New Year’s Eve plans.
