Chase Roberts injury: What happened to BYU WR?

Chase Roberts injury: What happened to BYU WR?

During the Alamo Bowl, the 17th-ranked BYU Cougars dominated the 23rd-ranked Colorado Buffaloes 20-0 in the first half. Things didn’t go well for the Cougars, however, as junior wide receiver Chase Roberts suffered an upper extremity injury in the second quarter.

At halftime it was announced that Roberts would not return to the game as he landed on his left arm/shoulder and left the field with trainers at his side. He went to the medical tent but the results weren’t great as he won’t play in the second half of the game.

Chase Roberts didn’t have too much production in this game as he had one catch for 11 yards before leaving the game. Due to this injury, Darius Lassiter is expected to score more goals in the second half as he is eligible to play in the second half after being suspended for an unsportsmanlike penalty in the game against the Houston Cougars.

What can we expect from Chase Roberts next season?

Last week, Chase Roberts announced that he would return to the BYU Cougars for his senior season instead of entering the 2025 NFL Draft. His most productive season came on the road to the Alamo Bowl. He finished the season with 51 receptions for 843 yards (16.5 yards per catch), four touchdown receptions and five carries for 21 yards (4.2 yards per rush).

With quarterback Jake Retzlaff also returning, this is a connection that will be great during the 2025 college football season. This should help Chase Roberts take the next step in the development of his game and be the potential 1,000-yard wide receiver next season in a tough Big 12 Conference.

There’s a reason the BYU Cougars team was able to start this season 9-0 and climb as high as sixth place nationally before losing two of its final three games in the regular season. That connection with Chase Roberts getting even more involved should do wonders for the Cougars in 2025.
