Chiefs feel they are playing their best football at the moment, don’t want to ‘flatten out’

For most of the 2024 season, the Chiefs earned victories with last-minute heroics and a lucky serve that left many wondering when their luck would run out.

The formula has looked a little different in the last few weeks. The wins have been a little more comfortable and Wednesday’s win in Pittsburgh was as convincing as any win all season. Head coach Andy Reid agreed with a reporter at his postgame press conference who called the 29-10 their best performance of the year and said the team was “rolling” in all three phases.

Reid added that it was important for the team not to “flatten out” after reaching that level of performance, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes agreed that it was important not to become complacent at this point.

“We play, especially offensively, Our best football at the end of the year,” Mahomes said. “The boys are getting healthy and we’re looking forward to it.” We’ll keep working. This is not the end. This is just the beginning and we will continue to work to get better as we head into the playoffs.”

The Chiefs have secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, so they have nothing to worry about in Week 18 and will rest until their divisional round game on Jan. 18 or 19. Balancing the chance to get even healthier with the desire to stay fit Reid will have to figure out how to give his players rest before the final attempt at a three-peat in Kansas City.
