The Kansas City Chiefs AFC West victory over the Los Angeles Chargers was more than a victory for one of their star players. Patrick Mahomes took time in his postgame press conference to recognize his teammate Travis Kelce’s latest career achievement.

“He (Travis Kelce) means the world to me, man. I mean, without getting emotional – he’s a guy who really made me who I am in my career and (he) is a true leader on the football field. “Someone – everyone says ‘security blanket,’ but someone I can go to at any time and they’ll make a big play,” Mahomes said. “Throughout his career, he’s never fallen that far behind in terms of his work.” Ethics and the way he leads, and I think that’s super important when you have a guy who’s going to wear a gold jacket, and he’s the hardest working guy on the team.”

With the win, Kelce became the fastest tight end to 12,000 yards in his career and set up kicker Matthew Wright’s game-winning field goal.

“I think just both. Just as a player, he (Travis Kelce) is obviously someone who – he plays on the same wavelength as me and it’s hard to do that and I think you can see that it’s taking up time for the guys because it looks like that “From day one, I was on the same page with Trav,” Mahomes said. “Then when you see him at work every day, everyone sees like the personality on TV and stuff like that, but you don’t see that everyday work ethic that he has. I mean, he’s the type of guy who gets mad when you take him out of reps. That’s exactly the type of work ethic he has. Even coming into the league and having a superstar player and seeing him work like that, it kind of showed me that if I want to get to that level, I have to bring that work ethic.”

Kelce continues to climb the league record books and his performances show no signs of slowing down after an unusual start to the season that led many critics to question his football future.
