Christmas song premiere: “You are never alone at Christmas”

Christmas song premiere: “You are never alone at Christmas”

From “Good Day Christmas List” to “Christmas in Atlanta” to “Don’t Care Where I Spend Christmas,” it has become a tradition over the last decade to bring an original holiday song to viewers here on Good Day Atlanta. And after a heated week of recording and mixing both the song and the music video, this morning we finally revealed this year’s composition: “You’re Never Alone at Christmas.”

As with the other songs I’ve written for Good Day Atlanta’s Christmas morning music show, I waited patiently for inspiration to strike (usually that doesn’t happen until late November, then I start to lose patience…) — and this time it came Form of a single word: “simplicity”. I wanted to write and record a song with a clear, concise message: No matter what happens this holiday season, the Good Day Atlanta/FOX 5 Atlanta team is here. When the phrase “You’re Never Alone at Christmas” came to mind, the rest of the song came pretty easily to me.

The fact is, Christmas isn’t always all merriment, eggnog, and ugly sweater parties; The holidays can be a challenging and lonely time. I wanted to reflect that in my song while balancing it with a feeling of hope. I hope it brings comfort to anyone who listens.

Once again the extremely talented Alyse Eady lends her wonderful vocals to the song, and my big brother Nate was kind enough to add some bass and percussion to the track. The music video features clips from our recent Toys for Tots Great Toy Drop event – a big thank you to everyone who came out and donated toys to local children!

So without further ado, enjoy this year’s original Christmas song from Good Day Atlanta – the lyrics are printed below if you’d like to sing along. And if you’re joining us on Christmas morning, please tune in to Good Day Atlanta and join us as we present a morning of wonderful music from a long list of talented artists. And remember: we are here for you. You are never alone at Christmas.

“You are never alone at Christmas”

Text and music by Paul Milliken

It was another tough year,

You don’t feel much happiness,

Write Christmas cards

But I don’t feel sincere.

December came too quickly

Summer never seems to last,

Winter is such a lonely time,

Too many ghosts of Christmas past.

But when your red and green turn blue

Remember what I told you…

You never are

You are never alone

You are never alone at Christmas

Because you have me.

You never are

You are never alone

You are never alone at Christmas

Because you have me.

preparing dinner for one person,

Microwave and you’re done,

I don’t want to watch TV,

Everyone is having too much fun.

But if the tree just isn’t tall,

You know you need to call a friend

You never are

You are never alone

You are never alone at Christmas

Because you have me.

You never are

You are never alone

You are never alone at Christmas

Because you have me.
