CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten revealed new numbers that show Americans’ trust in the FBI has plummeted over the past decade.

During a network segment on Tuesday, Enten revealed that only 41% of Americans trust law enforcement overall, which he said is the “lowest level this century.”

“Look at where we are today, my goodness. Only 41% of Americans believe the FBI is doing an excellent or good job. This is by far the lowest number this century,” Enten told CNN host Kate Bolduan, citing Gallup poll numbers .

Enten talks about FBI clearance numbers

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten recently broke down the numbers that show Americans’ approval of the FBI is waning.

The data reporter marveled at the fact that this represents an 18% decline in benefit in just 10 years.

“Look at the current trend line. You go back to 2014, right? It was 59% of Americans, then it was 57% in 2019 – 50% in 2022,” he said before revealing the 2024 numbers.

Enten further explained the timing of the decline, noting: “The bottom line is that there were obviously investigations into Donald Trump during the Trump administration. You saw a small decline then and after January 6th, look at that decline – “50%, now 41%.”

Enten then broke down the approval numbers by party. He started with Republican voters and showed an even steeper decline among that group. In 2014, 62% of respondents thought the FBI was doing an “excellent or good job.” Moving forward to 2024, only 26% thought the same.

“Oh, my goodness,” Bolduan remarked when he saw the last number. “Yes. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. That’s a very good word, Kate Bolduan… You can really see the waste here,” replied Enten.

The approval ratings of Democratic voters varied widely. In 2014, 54% were approved, in 2019 the number increased to 66%. In 2022 it rose even further – to 79% – and then fell again to the current level of 67%.

“The bottom line is this: While Republicans are much less trusting of the FBI, Democrats have become more trusting, even though the number of people who trust it now – who think it’s doing an excellent or good job – is lower than it was two years ago.” ” he said.

“And that’s why we have the lowest percentage of Americans overall this century who believe the FBI is doing an excellent or good job.”

Enten then spoke about President-elect Trump’s reform-minded choice of attorney Kashyap “Kash” Patel as the new FBI director.

At the beginning of the segment, he said: “I think Patel has real reason to believe that Americans would agree with the changes he might make at the FBI, and there is a reason why Donald Trump feels that he would can bring about this change.”

In a later CNN segment, Enten told CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins that since Trump nominated Patel over the weekend, he had not faced any opposition from Republican senators, who would join Democratic senators in voting to confirm him or give him the nomination Deny appointment once Trump receives appointment into office.

“Here is a crucial point. You know, I mentioned these three senators, right? They could afford to lose three GOP votes. At this particular point in time, for Patel as FBI chief, the crucial number is zero. So many GOP voices Senators came out against him.”
