Colin Jost shocks wife Scarlett Johansson with raunchy ‘SNL’ jokes

Another year, another painful one Saturday Night Live Episode for Colin Jost. But this time he didn’t have to suffer alone.

SNL aired its final episode of 2024 this weekend, which meant one of the show’s most beloved traditions was back in full force: Michael Che and Jost’s annual Christmas joke swap, a “Weekend Update” segment in which they are forced to , reading jokes that they haven’t seen before that they’ve written for each other.

Any true SNL A fan will tell you that Che is known for going the extra mile when trading jokes. At one point he invited a real practicing rabbi – and at another time a civil rights activist – to witness the offensive jokes he wrote for Jost. This time, he took a much more personal approach and made sure Scarlett Johansson, Jost’s wife, was in the building and the camera was pointed directly at her to capture her live reaction to the swap. And like Che and Jost, she didn’t disappoint.

Jost initially announced, at Che’s direction, that he would read his jokes in “Black Voice.” He then cracked a few jokes about reparations for slavery and soon turned his attention to his loving wife.

“I want to dedicate this next joke to my friend Scarlett Johansson,” Jost said. When the camera switched to Johansson backstage, watching the segment on a television, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh no. Oh my God, she’s so genuinely worried.”

He picked up the joke again and continued, “Hey, boo. You know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday… which means I’m getting out of there in a minute!”

As Jost lowered his head in defeat, Che intervened and said, “There’s more.”

So Jost continued. “No, no, I’m just playing,” he read. “We just had a kid together and you haven’t seen any pictures of him yet… because he’s fucking black.”

Backstage, Johansson sipped her drink and shook her head in disbelief. But that wasn’t enough, because the next joke went towards an R rating. Jost reported on Costco’s recent decision to remove the roast beef sandwich from the menu as a picture of it appeared on the screen next to him, and revealed that he “has been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the baby.” .

The punchline caused a stir from the crowd, and even Johansson appeared shocked and horrified when the camera cut to her and exclaimed, “Oh my god, holy shit!”

Jost continued, laughing, “No, no, I’m just playing, baby. You know I don’t go downtown… That’s gay as hell!”

Jost tried to get revenge, forcing Che to joke about the recent allegations against Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“No, man. No, no, no,” Che said before delivering the joke written by Jost. “Some people are afraid to talk about it, but not Mikey ‘The Truth Bomb’ Che, so here it is: Jay-Z is innocent. He wasn’t even at those parties and I know it because I was!”

Che stifled laughter and continued, “And Diddy, if you’re listening, we’re bad boys for life. When it comes to the allegations against you, I say the same thing I always said at your parties: I will help get rid of you.

“Weird to say that at a party,” Jost joked.

Che also had to read a joke about the box office success of Moana 2: “As me and my good friend Jeffrey Epstein always said, there’s nothing like an island adventure with a teenage girl.”

He continued: “I’m just kidding. I would never sleep with a girl as dark as Moana.”

Johansson, who has been married to Jost since 2020, admitted earlier this year that the prank exchange wasn’t a walk in the park for her either, saying she practically “fainted” during the segment’s May edition.

“We’ll have to go into witness protection after that night,” Johansson joked at the time. “I am absolutely terrified that we will be targeted. It’s that bad. I pass out for that period of the night. I don’t know – I don’t actually remember it.”

She described the segment as “brutal,” adding: “I feel like it gets worse every year. It’s just terrible.”
