College football fans noticed Bowling Green’s sneaky move on the fake punt TD pass

Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler was deep in his sack Thursday night in the 68 Ventures Bowl.

Trailing 10-0 in the first quarter against Arkansas State, Loeffler faced a four-and-20 at midfield. And even though the Red Wolves opted to line up in a normal defensive formation and not attempt to block the punt, the Falcons converted and scored a touchdown with a perfect 43-yard pass to a wide-open Malcolm Johnson Jr., who raced across the field.

But wait, there’s more.

It wasn’t actually punter John Henderson who threw the pass – as was initially noted on the ESPN broadcast. It was third-string quarterback Baron May who appeared as a punter in the game – and he went out of his way to disguise himself as a regular Falcons punter.

As Bowling Green graduate Brett Gibbons pointed out on social media, May wore white leg sleeves and tucked his towel in the same position as Henderson. He also wore the No. 8 jersey all season, but on Thursday night, May rocked the No. 18 jersey, which looked quite similar to Henderson’s No. 19 jersey.

No wonder the suitor had such a cannon.

It was quite the first half for Bowling Green’s special teams, as the Falcons allowed a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the first quarter, but struck back with their creative fake punt touchdown. Bowling Green kicker Zach Long also missed a 39-yard field goal attempt to end the half.

At halftime, the Falcons trailed the Red Wolves 24-21.
