Family-friendly comedian Nate Bargatze was able to chat with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager about his new Netflix special, “YOUR FRIEND, NATE BARGATZE.”

Bargatze talked about the special thing and how he fell in love with his wife.

“We met at Applebee’s,” the comedian recalled. “We waited tables together at Applebees in Nashville and met there before I started comedy… She was very funny. I remember she was sitting on a broomstick. She was sweeping and I think she was on the broom clicking it like a witch. Like she was riding a broom.”

Bargatze made a clicking sound with his mouth, like what cowboys call their horses.

“(It’s like she said) move on, and it was just very funny and very sweet,” he explained.

Bargatze’s special just dropped on Christmas Eve and the family comedian just announced his 2025 tour called “Big Dumb Eyes,” which is also the name of his new book. The tour begins in Oslo, Norway in early April and ends in Nashville in mid-December 2025.

“YOUR FRIEND NATE BARGATZE” is the first part of a double special deal with Netflix. Bargatze is scheduled to make another special appearance in 2025 or later. Netflix and Bargatze have not revealed any further details.

In late August, Pollstar reported that Bargatze was the highest-earning comedian in the world.

Bargatze “maintains a firm grip on the No. 1 spot with its massive $79.9 million box office,” Pollstar reported. “That’s over $35 million more than any other listed gross company. With 163 reported appearances – the most appearances of any comedian in the cast – his attendance is also the best among the top 25, standing at 1,098,929. Austin fans purchased the most tickets for his performance with 33,276 tickets sold for three performances at the Moody Center on April 21-22, while his highest gross was for two shows at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 13, 2020. was $23 million.”

A likely reason for its success is that most of its content is family-friendly, meaning more people can watch and listen to its content together.

Bargatze is also a believer. Last year, he shared the reason he does clean comedy: “That’s how I grew up,” he told the Deseret News. “I grew up Christian in the South and (clean comedy) was all we could see. It’s just the way we were. I knew I would never be dirty. I was always clean.”
