The genre-bending musical “Emilia Pérez,” the postwar epic “The Brutalist” and the Vatican-set potboiler “Conclave” dominated the list of film nominees for the 82nd Golden Globes, which were announced early Monday, officially kicking off Hollywood’s awards season.

In the “Best Drama Film” category, “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” were joined by the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” the science fiction spectacle “Dune: Part Two,” the literary adaptation “Nickel Boys” and the film “1972”. -Set thriller “5. September.”

In the race for best comedy or musical film, “Emilia Pérez” competes with the crazy romance “Anora”, the heated love triangle “Challengers”, the family dramedy “A Real Pain”, the body horror satire “The Substance” and the another fantasy hit “Wicked”.

“Emilia Pérez” tops the list of films with 10 awards, although awards experts still believe the battle for best picture at the Oscars in March is still open.

Sebastian Stan is double nominated for his performances in “The Apprentice,” a drama about the early years of President-elect Donald Trump, and “A Different Man,” a dark comedy about an aspiring actor.

Selena Gomez is also a two-time Globes contender this year, receiving acting recognition for her roles in “Emilia Pérez” and the Hulu television series “Only Murders in the Building.”

On the television side, major contenders include FX’s “Shōgun,” a sweeping saga set in feudal Japan, and FX’s “The Bear,” a frenetic portrait of a Chicago restaurant. The two shows are critical favorites.

The nominees in 27 categories were announced at 8:15 a.m. ET by actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. The awards ceremony is scheduled to air live on January 5th on CBS and the Paramount+ streaming service. Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser will moderate the event.

In addition to the usual procession of trophies and speeches, this year’s Globes will honor small screen leading man Ted Danson with the Carol Burnett Award, an award that recognizes someone who has “made outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen.” .

Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis is also expected to be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
