Don’t expect Conor McGregor’s UFC hiatus to end anytime soon.

The former featherweight and lightweight world champion said on Tuesday on X that he had made “tentative arrangements” to fight Logan Paul in India. He also denied that he is seeking a fight with current UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria:

Conor McGregor @TheNotoriousMMA

The rumors of a fight with Topurio are false. I have made tentative arrangements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing competition in India.
I agreed.
I will then aim for my return to the octagon.

Assuming the exhibition with Paul comes to fruition, it might be worth asking whether McGregor ever steps into the Octagon again.

It has been more than three years since his last UFC fight, a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. His skills seemed to be waning even then, considering his first-round TKO over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 is his last win since 2016.

Now 36, McGregor is well past his peak when he was one of the best pound-for-pound stars.

The stage was set for McGregor’s long-awaited comeback this summer at UFC 303. He and Michael Chandler were supposed to be the headliners in Las Vegas.

Instead a broken toe forced McGregor to withdraw just weeks before the event.

With this, UFC and President Dana White once again leave the door open for the Irish star’s return, but cannot provide any details or guarantees.

Of course, nothing with Paul is final yet and we haven’t heard the part-time boxer/WWE star give any confirmation yet. Tuesday’s announcement appears to at least outline McGregor’s current priorities, and the UFC doesn’t fit into the equation.
