Costco’s food court is reportedly dropping a major brand

Costco’s food court is reportedly dropping a major brand

The social media rumor mill is abuzz with the latest Costco food court rumors. Although the news has not been officially confirmed by the warehouse retailer, numerous sources on multiple platforms are pushing the claim that Costco will be replacing the Pepsi products in its sodas with cola drinks in the new year. The Costco Insider Instagram account claims that incoming drinks will include Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke and Sprite (the latest to replace Starry – and no, for the last time: Starry and Sierra Mist are not the same thing.)

The rumor was repeated on Reddit, where one commenter cited a “well-placed source” as claiming that the switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola would occur “in early 2025.” Other social media profiles have since repeated this claim, mentioning the fact that Costco switched from Coca-Cola to Pepsi about a decade ago and may now be backing down.

Here too, it’s all just rumors at the moment. But sometimes where there is smoke there is also fire. Additionally, several reports have claimed that the reason Costco might return to Coca-Cola makes perfect financial sense for the retailer.

Costco’s soda fountains follow the money

In 2013, Costco switched to Fountain Pepsi to save money and maintain the legendary $1.50 price on its hot dog and soda combo. Costco Insider claims that Coke has finally lowered prices after a highly publicized 2009 uproar that saw Costco pull all Coca-Cola products from its shelves for a time. This may have led to Costco welcoming Coca-Cola products back into its food courts with open arms.

If Costco does indeed switch to Coca-Cola products, it may recalibrate the soda dispensers that have caused so many complaints. Costco members claim the machines dispense either too much syrup or too much carbonated water, resulting in a poorly mixed soda. Netizens have also complained about the limited selection of drinks at the Costco food court.

However, it remains to be seen whether Pepsi’s switch to Coca-Cola is a fact or just a rumor. Only time will tell if the fountain drink Pepsi ends up on our ongoing list of discontinued Costco food court items that we can’t get back. And according to an original study from the University of South Carolina, 61% of respondents prefer Coke to Pepsi. So this could be a welcome change if the persistent allegations prove true.
