It’s not often you hear a Premier League manager say he wants one of his rivals to win a trophy, but that was the case when Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke about Tottenham’s opponent Ange Postecoglou today.

Slot, who has been heavily linked with Spurs in 2023, expressed his view that he wants to give Postecoglou physical recognition for his attacking tactics at the London club for the good of football.

And although Slot will support Tottenham in the Europa League rather than stop the Reds from winning silverware, he doesn’t want Spurs to take points away from his side when they meet in the league on Sunday (4:30pm GMT).

If Chelsea win at Everton, Liverpool could be top of the Premier League before the game, but despite the Reds losing their lead after two draws in the top flight, Slot showed no signs of being worried about such a scenario.

Instead, he pointed out that the rankings should only serve as a guide after 19 games, when everyone has played against each other.

Slot has highlighted a few times this season how opposing teams have changed their tactics to eliminate his team, but with Spurs unlikely to do so, it should make for entertaining viewing on Sunday.
