Dan Campbell explained why signing Teddy Bridgewater is “great” for the Lions

Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and signing with the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

Lions coach Dan Campbell spoke about Bridgewater joining the team shortly after and explained why this addition will be an asset to Detroit for the remainder of the regular season and postseason.

“I have been in contact with Teddy for some time and it was always a possibility,” Campbell said. “The opportunity to hire someone here again who has experience, who stays in shape, who has thrown. … It just brings a level of professionalism, veteran presence, someone who is great for our team. He’s great for the position.”

Campbell also praised Bridgewater for helping his high school alma mater Miami Northwestern win a Florida state championship earlier this month. Bridgewater retired from the NFL after the 2023 season and took the coaching position, where he won a championship in his first season.

Bridgewater made it clear last week that he wanted to return to the NFL, and that was always on his mind. It was also a smart decision for him to move to the 13-2 Lions shortly before the playoffs. We’ll see how he helps the Lions in the next few weeks.
