Dangerous conditions are triggering a road weather advisory for several highways in northern Utah

Continued rainfall has prompted authorities to issue a road weather warning for several highways in northern Utah through Sunday evening.

The Utah Department of Transportation issued the warning at 3 a.m. Dec. 15, warning residents that persistent snow showers had created dangerous road conditions along portions of the Wasatch Front, Cache Valley and many canyon and mountain routes.

While road conditions are expected to improve by midday after snow showers ease around 10 a.m., persistent rainfall could extend travel danger on high-altitude passes and peaks. The warning therefore applies until Sunday, 6 p.m.

UDOT has identified the following routes as routes likely to experience weather-related travel issues during the forecast period:

  • I-15, ID border to North Salt Lake; point of the mountain
  • I-80, Parleys Canyon-Wyoming border
  • I-84, entire route
  • I-215, east side
  • US-40, silver corner. Jct. to Duchesne
  • US-189, Provo Canyon
  • US-6, Spanish Fork to Colton
  • US-89/91, North Salt Lake ID border; US-6 Jct. to Mt Pleasant
  • SR-190, Big Cottonwood Canyon
  • SR-210, Little Cottonwood Canyon
  • SR-39, entire route
  • SR-150, entire route
  • SR-35, Francis over Wolf Creek Pass
