Daniel Stern says Joe Pesci really bit Macaulay Culkin’s finger on Home Alone

Home alone is an undeniable Christmas classic, but also a pretty light, entertaining film. Of course, just because it plays like a comedy doesn’t mean that Joe Pesci, who played one half of the Wet Bandits who terrorize Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin while he’s home alone, didn’t take his job very seriously.

Daniel Stern played Marv, the other half of these Wet Bandits, and in a recent interview Entertainment tonightHe particularly remembered a scene in which Pesci actually bit Culkin’s character, as his character, Harry, was trying to be intimidating.

“I completely forgot about that,” Stern said. “Joe is…he’s wonderful, I love him, he’s a dear friend, but he’s a scary guy and he’s carried everything with him. Because he was – we tried to be really scary from the start in the first movie, and then you realize we’re idiots. But there was a fear factor that created the drama of the matter.”

Pesci, who had already won an Oscar when he took on the role, almost immediately apologized for getting too involved in the scene. ‘Shit, I didn’t actually mean to do that,'” Stern explained. “Joe was like, ‘Ahh, sorry I did that.’ But (that’s the) only time you see Pesci break.”

Culkin was the first to revisit the incident, saying in a question-and-answer session at the Rosemont Theater that he still bears a scar from the incident.

“I have a scar,” Culkin said. “I’ve seen his face – and I’ve never seen Joe Pesci really scared… because he says, ‘I just bit a kid!'”
