The Bruins were without their leading scorer for most of Tuesday’s home game against the Washington Capitals.

David Pastrnak left Boston’s game against Washington midway through the second period with an upper-body injury, and the Bruins listed him as “unlikely to return” early in the third period.

Pastrnak, who logged 9:00 minutes of ice time, was permanently eliminated from the game with 11:45 minutes remaining in the second period.

The 28-year-old winger appeared to skate cautiously early in the second period, but then appeared to be in pain after making contact with Capitals forward Tom Wilson near center ice.

Although Pastrnak didn’t head down the tunnel immediately, he only completed a few more shifts before leaving the game for good. He finished the game with one shot on goal and managed 1:18 power play reps.

Although Pastrnak has played in all 35 of Boston’s games so far this season, he has taken his fair share of bumps and bruises.

Before Boston’s five-game road trip out West earlier this month, Pastrnak missed practice at Warrior Ice Arena because of what interim coach Joe Sacco called an “upper-body issue.”

Despite his absence from Brighton, Pastrnak never missed any away games. Although Pastrnak’s scoring rate has declined this season (12 goals in 35 games), he has 16 points in his last 13 games.
