Deion Sanders fights back tears before the last game and coaches sons Shedeur and Shilo

The Alamo Bowl is on Saturday. A big game for Colorado football and a momentous day for the Sanders family. Coach Deion Sanders gave a brief interview with ESPN’s Taylor McGregor before the game and was visibly emotional that he would be coaching his sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Shilo Sanders, for the last time.

“The trip. The trip. It’s been a tremendous, tumultuous journey,” Sanders said after being asked if it would be the last time he would go out with his sons.

When asked what he thought about in the final moments before kickoff, Sanders said he looked back to when his sons started the game.

“I see when they first put on uniforms when they first started. When I started training her. The good, the bad, the indifference. The ups and downs. Just the journey, it’s been a hell of a journey.” And I’m grateful, I’m really grateful for that.

“I have to get it together, I have to train. I have to hold it together,” Sanders said, fighting back tears.

Shilo Sanders began his college career at South Carolina before joining his father and brother Shedeur at Jackson State as Deion landed his first college coaching job with the HBCU program at the FCS level in 2021.

The Sanders family, along with two-way star Travis Hunter, moved to Colorado before the 2023 season. After a promising start in 2023 turned into a disappointing 4-8 season, the Buffaloes rose to become one of the Big 12’s best teams and were in the hunt for the College Football Playoff by season’s end.

Now they have a chance to win a 10th game and put an end to one of the better college football stories in recent memory, as the Sanders brothers and Hunter are ready to declare for the NFL draft.

The Alamo Bowl between Colorado and BYU will be broadcast on ABC.
