Delays at SFO as record travel holiday season expected

Clouds and wet weather delayed about 130 flights to and from San Francisco International Airport on Monday morning, two days before Christmas.

The delays were reported on FlightAware around 10 a.m., which also showed there were no cancellations at that time.

Oakland and San Jose airports reported no delays.

Car club AAA predicts more than 119 million people will drive at least 50 miles from home between Saturday and New Year’s Day, surpassing the previous holiday season peak set in 2019.

Trade Group Airlines for America also expects record travel, saying U.S. airlines would carry 54 million passengers in a 19-day period that began Thursday and ended Jan. 6. This figure would represent a 6% increase over the previous year.

Airlines expect December 26, 27 and 29 to be the busiest days.

Light traffic is expected on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. By far the slowest US air travel day this year thanksgiving Day.

The Transportation Security Administration expects to screen 40 million passengers over the holidays and through January 2nd.
