Delta Air Lines adds new flight from Washington to Seattle

WASHINGTON- Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines (DL) will begin nonstop service between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Seattle Tacoma International Airport ( SEA).

The new route arose from Delta’s lobbying efforts related to the FAA reauthorization law, which President Biden signed into law in May.

Flight from Delta Washington to Seattle

The SEA-DCA service was among five new flights outside the Perimeter approved by the DOT, completing Delta’s connectivity between Washington DC and all three of its western hubs.

Glen Hauenstein, President of Delta Air Lines, emphasized the strategic importance of this development:

Seattle is a key market for our customers, an important hub for Delta and a premier gateway to the West Coast. Delta commends the Department of Transportation for recognizing that DCA’s additional service to Seattle will provide consumers with the much-needed competition and choice they deserve. We look forward to launching a new premium DCA service in March.”

Community and business leaders provided critical support in securing route approval from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), underscoring the service’s economic benefits to both regions.

Delta Air Lines will operate its Airbus A321neo aircraft on this route, providing improved fuel efficiency while maintaining world-class customer comfort. The Port of Seattle recognized Delta for operating the highest proportion of fuel-efficient aircraft at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in 2023.

The A321neo service will feature Delta Sync and will provide SkyMiles members with free WiFi access throughout the flight. Passengers have access to Delta Studio’s entertainment platform, which offers movies, TV shows, music and podcasts.

Strengthening the Seattle hub

Delta Air Lines continues to expand its Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) hub as a primary Asian gateway, operating routes to Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

Starting in spring 2025, Delta will convert these Asian routes to 306-seat Airbus A350 aircraft. This fleet modernization will add 55,000 seats annually compared to current Airbus A330 operations and increase premium seating capacity in Delta One and Delta Premium Select cabins by 40%.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will become Delta’s fourth location to feature a Delta One lounge in summer 2025. The expansion includes a new 23,000 square meter Sky Club in Hall A.

Joan Wang, Delta’s general manager for the Pacific Northwest, emphasized the airline’s regional commitment:

As Delta celebrates more than 90 years in Seattle, the airline continues to grow and expand its presence in the community through strategic investments and improved flight options. And as Seattle’s largest international airline, we are committed to connecting the world to the Evergreen State and showcasing everything Washington has to offer.”
