Demolition of Las Vegas Grand Prix track continues to impact traffic | Road Warrior | News

With the 20 Formula One drivers, their teams and the thousands of fans long gone, the dismantling of Las Vegas race tracks around the resort corridor continues this week.

Teams got to work shortly after the end of the 50-lap F1 race in the early hours of November 24, removing track barriers and lighting around the 3.8-mile track, which consisted mostly of public roads .

The majority of work along the Strip is complete, aside from the ongoing removal of the Bellagio Fountain Club, as is work on Sands Avenue. Crews are still destroying other related racing infrastructure on Harmon Avenue and Koval Lane.

The biggest impact on traffic will occur this weekend when the temporary Flamingo Road motor bridge over Koval is dismantled.

Here are the works and associated road issues drivers can expect this week and beyond.

Las Vegas Blvd

With the rail barrier and the last of the track lights removed last week, the only remaining work on the Strip is the dismantling of the Bellagio Fountain Club, located above the famous fountain attraction at the MGM Resorts-owned resort. Two southbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard will remain closed to traffic between Flamingo and Bellagio Drive until December 27th. Access to and from the resort will be maintained throughout the removal process.

Koval Lane

On Koval am Flamingo, sidewalks remain closed while a temporary footbridge is dismantled.

A series of nighttime closures are also planned for Koval to remove rail barriers, track lights and a pedestrian bridge on Rochelle Avenue.

Nighttime lane reductions are planned on Koval between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. until Friday as track lighting is removed. During the work, drivers will have one lane in each direction.

Starting Sunday and continuing through December 20th, Koval will then return to one lane in each direction every evening between 9pm and 6am as crews remove track lighting along the road.

Finally, Koval in Rochelle is scheduled to temporarily close between 9 p.m. Dec. 23 and 6 a.m. Dec. 24 as crews dismantle a temporary pedestrian bridge.

Harmon Ave

A series of nightly closures are planned for Harmon, starting this week and ending Dec. 24.

Harmon’s overnight closures on Audrie Street, which began Dec. 1, will continue through Friday. During this time, Harmon will remain closed overnight between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. while crews remove a temporary vehicle bridge over the intersection. No left turns are permitted at the intersection of Harmon and Audrie at any time. Signs regulate traffic.

There will also be lane reductions on Harmon each night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Friday to remove track lighting. One lane in each direction will remain open during the work.

Another temporary closure of Harmon is scheduled between 9:00 p.m. on December 23rd and 8:00 a.m. on December 24th due to the need to remove a vehicle bridge near Top Golf.

Flamingo Road Bridge Removal

The Flamingo and Koval intersection will be closed to traffic for a week from 9pm Sunday to 9pm December 21 while the temporary Flamingo Bridge is removed. To help motorists navigate the closure and provide easier access to area businesses, reading boards will be installed at and around the intersection.

Restricted access points for businesses near the Flamingo-Koval intersection are as follows:

■ The Westin: Guests can access the Westin via the property’s westernmost entrance on Flamingo Street

■ Jay’s Market: Drivers can reach the store via Koval;

■ Caesars Entertainment Employee Parking: Caesars employees can access parking through Flamingo;

■ Meridian Condos: Residents and guests can access the residential area via Koval;

■ ARCO gas station: Customers can access the convenient store via Koval;

■ The Platinum Hotel: Guests can reach the hotel using flaggers via the one-way Flamingo Street;
