Soccer player Trinity Rodman has spoken about her relationship with her famous father.

Rodman was a guest of Alex CooperCall her dad podcast on Wednesday (Dec. 18), in which she discussed what it was like growing up with her father, Dennis Rodman, a five-time NBA champion and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The US Women’s National Team player admitted in a promotional video for the episode that she doesn’t even consider Dennis a father. “We never want to make him look bad, and the only way to do that is to hold back too much,” Rodman said after being asked why she felt this was the right time to talk about her father.

“…I guess it’s just the anger I haven’t been able to let out that’s having a hard time.”

When the soccer striker and podcast host began discussing money, Rodman said she spent part of her life in her car to avoid her father’s treatment.

“We had a (Ford) Expedition and lived there for a while…We tried to live with him but he throws parties 24/7 and brings random bastards with him,” she said. “…He loves the spotlight, he loves the cameras, he loves bringing his kids on stage and saying, ‘Oh, those are my kids.'”

She said the relationship between her and her father was so damaged that she had “lost hope” that it could be repaired.

“I lost hope of ever getting him back,” she said. “I answer the phone now (when he calls) so my conscience is such that he needs to hear my voice before anything happens. That’s why I answer the phone, not for me… He’s not a father. Maybe through blood, but nothing else.”

The soccer player also recalled a moment with her father in 2021 when the former Chicago Bulls player showed up at one of their soccer games. At the time, she ran toward him in tears as the two hugged, but according to Rodman, it wasn’t out of love.

She explained that it was largely a shock reaction because she and her father had not spoken for months before his appearance at the game. As she came towards him, he grabbed her head and that made her cry.

“Then I walk over and again there’s cameras everywhere, he grabs my head and I just start crying into his arms like it’s a father-daughter conversation…” she said.

Rodman’s mother, Michelle Moyer, was Dennis’ third wife. The two first met in 1999 before welcoming their son Dennis “DJ” Rodman in 2001 and their son Trinity in 2002. They married in a small civil ceremony in 2003. A year later, Moyer filed for divorce, claiming she was “woke.” Call” happened after the Hall of Famer gave her a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for her birthday and had an accident.

“I am blessed to be alive. But I knew I couldn’t take it anymore,” she said in a 2022 interview with ESPN. “I had to be there for my children. I decided to get a divorce and put an end to the Dennis stuff. That was it for me.”

Their divorce was finalized in 2012.
