Des Moines residents warned about fake winter parking restrictions

The city said residents of at least one Des Moines neighborhood received letters that appeared to come from the city of Des Moines.

DES MOINES, Iowa – City officials in Des Moines are urging residents to be aware of incorrect information about winter parking.

The city said residents of at least one Des Moines neighborhood received letters that appeared to come from the city of Des Moines. The letters falsely warned residents about non-existent parking restrictions and possible fines.

There are no seasonal parking restrictions in Des Moines. Snow-related parking restrictions will only be enforced when Des Moines Public Works removes snow from streets.

To receive accurate winter parking information, residents can visit DMSnow.org and sign up for text and email alerts.

All official City of Des Moines mail is sent via certified mail with a return address. Additionally, all city email addresses end in @dmgov.org.

If you receive “suspicious” information that appears to come from city officials, search the city’s website for the department’s phone number and call the city directly to verify the information.

City officials advise residents not to respond to potentially fraudulent letters using the number or address provided.
