DeVonta Smith injury update: “Not very optimistic” receiver will play for Eagles-Ravens

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, there is “not much optimism” that the Philadelphia Eagles will have DeVonta Smith available for their Week 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Rapoport noted that Smith may practice before Sunday’s game to see if he can go. Mike Garafolo adds that there is “no final decision at this time, but (Smith) still has a lot of work to do to play here.”

Smith, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, was officially declared questionable to play in the Eagles’ most recent injury report. He missed practice on Wednesday before being limited on Thursday and Friday.

Maybe going without Smith isn’t ideal; The Eagles will likely need all hands on deck to beat the Ravens. With Johnny Wilson also out, Philadelphia could only rely on the following wide receivers: AJ Brown, Jahan Dotson, Britain Covey, Ainias Smith and Parris Campbell. The Eagles could try to really run the ball (like they normally do) and use more than two tight end sets in this game.

If he doesn’t play this weekend, we may see Smith return in Week 14 or Week 15. His progress in training suggests he will be back on the field sooner or later, although hamstring injuries can of course be difficult.
