Donald Trump is expected to be named Time Magazine's Person of the Year

According to Politico, Donald Trump’s run is expected to be recognized this week by Time magazine, which will name him Person of the Year.

Time will announce the winner on its website Thursday morning.

Trump’s political comeback after two impeachments, four indictments, defeat in the 2020 election and inciting an insurrection at the US Capitol to overturn the results is a remarkable moment in American history.

The president-elect also survived two assassination attempts. A bullet grazed his ear, killing a rally participant in the first assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump is the first president since Grover Cleveland in 1892 to win another term after losing re-election. He is also the oldest person to assume the presidency and the first person convicted of a crime to receive the post.

Trump’s victory is also notable for the political realignment it brought with it. He made gains among younger and Hispanic voters.

Trump is expected to mark the honor by ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange and unveiling the magazine cover on Thursday, Politico reported, citing three sources.

Trump was also named Person of the Year in 2016 after winning his first bid for the White House. Time did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the 2024 award.

Time unveiled its Person of the Year shortlist earlier this week. They include Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton, Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu. Time named professional basketball player Caitlin Clark its Female Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Pop star Taylor Swift was named 2023 Person of the Year.
