Donald Trump suggests government knows more about drone sightings than they’re letting on: ‘Let the public know’

Donald Trump claimed on Friday, December 13, that government officials knew more about the strange drone sightings in the Northeast than they were revealing. He added that if this was not the case, the flying objects would have to be shot down.

“Mysterious drone sightings across the country. Can this really happen without our government’s knowledge? I do not believe that! Inform the public, now. Otherwise shoot it!!! DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Drone sightings are a cause for concern

The drone sightings have sparked concern among lawmakers, with many fearing a threat from adversaries like Iran on American shores. However, the Pentagon has rejected claims that a foreign country is behind the drones. The flying objects were spotted near US military facilities in New Jersey. In addition to Trump, many other Republican lawmakers have also called on the military to shoot down the drones, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ).

Luna, a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, suggested that if the objects were unknown, there should be no reason not to shoot them down. “If an unknown object enters our airspace, an automatic shoot-down order should be issued – no questions asked,” the congresswoman wrote on social media.

“What happened with the Chinese spy balloon should never happen again,” she added. “I trust President Trump will take decisive action to prevent this!”

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) and Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) wrote a letter to the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration requesting a confidential briefing about the drones. The drones have been appearing over the Garden State, New York, Maryland, Connecticut and Pennsylvania since mid-November.

“While the Pentagon has reiterated that these unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are not part of the U.S. military, there are increasing concerns that these drones are hostile and could conduct surveillance or intelligence gathering while exploiting U.S. airspace,” Pfluger wrote in the letter, according to the New York Post.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has already received a confidential briefing about the drone sightings, The Hill reported.
