Donating the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center changed her life

Donating the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center changed her life

The family who donated the Rockefeller Christmas tree talks to NewsChannel 13 about the wonderful experience.

Who knew a tree could change your life?

“It was great. Now that it’s over, it’s sad because we’ve had people here nonstop since October,” Shawn Albert said.

Thanks to the generosity of the Albert family, we were all able to have a wonderful vacation.

From cutting down trees to lighting them on fire, Shawn said the best part is the connection she built with you.

“We never realized the scale and things that surrounded it and how much it meant to people,” Michael said.

Hundreds of people even sent Christmas cards to the man who made it possible, Earl.
Earl donated his 74-foot spruce tree to Rockefeller Center, but missed some of the greatest moments because he suffered a stroke. To lift his spirits during his recovery, the family has asked for Christmas cards.

This request was well answered!

Earl Albert and his family are overjoyed at the attention their Rockefeller Center tree is receiving and are excited to receive Christmas cards in return.

“Oh my God. He’s crying! He’s crying at everyone (Christmas card). It’s so great. It’s the most touching thing. He can’t believe he’s influenced so many people,” Shawn said.

“It made us feel connected to people and the world again,” said Michael.

What means the most to Michael is the recognition his late mother receives.

“My mother’s kindness reaches so many different people.”

The Christmas tree was only a few feet tall when Earl purchased it for his wife, Leslie, in 1967. The entire Albert family dedicates this unique experience to Mom. Without her this wouldn’t happen.

“She was always so kind and so loving and so generous. That’s just how I grew up,” Michael said.

Like a star on the Christmas tree, Earl and Leslie shine brightly.

The family is still asking for cards. You can send them to:

Earl Albert, PO Box 109, West Stockbridge, MA 01266
