Draisaitl scores 3 points, the Oilers defeat the Golden Knights and get their fifth win in a row

Zach Hyman made it 2-0 at 1:13 of the second period by placing a backhand rebound at the top of the goal crease after a Nugent-Hopkins shot.

Brown made it 3-0 at 6:53, finishing off a rebound from below the left circle after Hill blocked Draisaitl’s shot on a 2-on-1 rush.

Draisaitl made it 4-0 at 10:46 by hitting a backhand cross pass from Darnell Nurse at the left post.

Corey Perry extended the lead to 5-0 at 12:53 with a snapshot from the high slot past Hill’s glove through traffic.

Victor Olofsson made it 5-1 at 15:35 with a one-timer in the slot off a pass from Tomas Hertl below the goal line, and Ivan Barbashev deflected a shot in front to make it 5-2 at 16:01.

“We started turning the puck over between the blue lines and they all ended up in our net,” Barbashev said. “There was a lot of detail in our D-zone, we were at a really good level defensively in the last five or six games and did a really good job. Today those little details just weren’t there, and so they basically scored all five goals.

“It’s like a bit of a wake-up call, we just have to get back to our normal game and regroup. We just have to turn the page and get better.”

Shorthanded Brett Howden made it 5-3 at 1:00 of the third period by stealing the puck from behind the net from Skinner and firing it into an open net.

Jeff Skinner responded 38 seconds later to make it 6-3 when he found a rebound in the slot and beat Hill with a snapshot.

“Of course you can’t give up the next goal. And obviously they’re a good hockey team, they’ll probably be on alert after this,” Cassidy said. “You’ll be back on your toes. It’s human nature to take your foot off the gas a little as you make progress. We’ve been there and done it.

“But unfortunately we gave up on the next one and that probably took the wind out of our sails.”

NOTES: It is Draisaitl’s sixth multi-point streak of at least five games in his career, passing Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche as the second-most active players. McDavid has the most points with 12 multi-point streaks in at least five games. … Jack Eichel (nine goals, 31 assists) set the Golden Knights mark for fewest games in a season to 40 points, previously held by Mark Stone in the 2020-21 season (32 games).
