Eagles News: Nick Sirianni reportedly apologized to Zach Ertz for making fun of him after the Commanders game

Let’s get to it Philadelphia Eagles Left…

Nick Sirianni called Zach Ertz to apologize after a high five led to a postgame breakup – Hogs Haven
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported yesterday that the two had to be separated by the Eagles’ chief security officer, Dom DiSandro. (…) “But according to sources close to the incident. Here’s what really happened. Ertz wanted to shake Sirianni’s hand and noticed the coach was excited, so he gave him a high five instead. Sirianni did not like the intensity of Ertz’s handshake and mocked him for only having one catch, telling him that he had done essentially nothing to contribute to the Commanders’ victory. Ertz took exception and kicked Sirianni in the face, but the trainer’s escort, as always Dom DiSandro, jumped in, held Ertz back and led a defeated Sirianni into the tunnel. Sirianni later called Ertz and apologized during a Zoom conference call.”

Eagles sign quarterback to practice squad ahead of Cowboys game – BGN
According to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad. The news has since been confirmed by an official team announcement. The Eagles had a chance after signing tight end Kevin Foelsch from the practice squad earlier this week. The Eagles’ new addition indicates the team has significant concerns about QB availability heading into this week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield are among NFL stars who want bonuses – ESPN
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After leaving the New York Giants and signing with the rival Eagles as a free agent, Barkley proved he still had a lot left. He currently leads the NFL with 2,114 yards from offense, which earns him $500,000. A Pro Bowl nomination earns Barkley an additional $250,000, and an All-Pro selection earns him $500,000. Barkley will also benefit as the Eagles head into the playoffs. He should earn $250,000 in bonus money if he wins the NFC Championship and $500,000 if he wins the Super Bowl.

Week 17 NFL Picks: Can the Bears beat the Seahawks on “TNF”? Broncos or Bengals in the big AFC duel? -NFL.com
Why Ali chose the Eagles: I waited as long as possible to make this pick, hoping to gain some insight into who would be a fit for this NFC East battle, or perhaps more importantly, who wouldn’t . The unknowns surrounding Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Ceedee Lamb (shoulder) are particularly difficult to navigate as both teams’ offenses look remotely the same without their respective superstars on the field. The same goes for the Cowboys’ defense, which was a mess while Micah Parsons was sidelined earlier this season. But since Week 12, the unit has been among the most opportunistic in the NFL, tied for first in takeaways and leading the league in sacks. I expect the Cowboys to have a huge lead in this divisional contest, which has only grown since the Eagles’ loss in Week 10. That desire for revenge helps keep this game close, but it’s not enough to keep Saquon Barkley and… For 60 minutes, the Eagles’ strongest defense was at a distance.

Are the Eagles considering changing the kickoff after the debacle against Commanders? – NBCSP
Michael Clay didn’t even wait for someone to ask a question about kickoffs and kickoff coverage. At his weekly media call on Tuesday, the Eagles’ special teams coach addressed this before even answering questions. And he hinted that the Eagles may be considering a move to avoid what happened in Sunday’s loss to the Commanders. “We didn’t play well enough in terms of special teams, especially in coverage, especially kickoff coverage,” he said. “We put our defense in terrible situations. First, to start the game with a penalty. Not what our standard is and then coming back and giving them a big return. … Overall it didn’t meet our standards. We put our defense in a bad spot. Kudos to Vic (Fangio) and (the defense) for getting some turnovers right after those bad moments. But we have to get better, especially as we finish this regular season and move into playoff football mode, especially against Dallas. We all know KaVontae Turpin is a dangerous returner. But not up to our standards when we played Washington.” It was a bad day all around as far as kickoffs go.

Eagles mourn Bill Bergey, NFC champion and franchise Hall of Fame member – PE.com
The Eagles are saddened by the passing of Bill Bergey, one of the franchise’s greatest linebackers and a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame. He fought bravely and courageously against cancer for three years. He died peacefully on Christmas morning at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Bergey. “An all-time Eagles star, Bill was a legendary linebacker who earned the respect of players and coaches across the league for his work ethic and tenacious play,” said Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. “He was rightfully inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1988. Bill embodied everything it meant to be an Eagles and proudly represented the team in the community long after his playing days were over. We will all miss him greatly and extend our deepest condolences to the entire Bergey family.” Bergey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Micky, three sons – Jason, Jake and Josh, ten grandchildren, whom he cares for every day loved and cherished, and two siblings – his brother Bruce and his sister Sylvia. He was a man who loved his family to the end. We will miss his bear hugs.

Cowboys Roundtable: Defensive Players, the Dallas Offense and the Philly Game – Blogging The Boys
Howman: I’ll start with my hot opinion: Everyone says Dallas has a good chance of winning if Kenny Pickett has to play again, but I think the odds are better if Jalen Hurts plays at the end. Hurts has been terrible under pressure this year, with a dismal EPA/decline of -0.39 under pressure. That puts him behind players like Bryce Young, Sam Darnold and Aaron Rodgers and just ahead of Kirk Cousins, who was just benched. Stopping Saquon Barkley will definitely be its own challenge, but I like the prospects of this red-hot Mike Zimmer defense going up against Hurts. (…) Tom: The Cowboys know Barkley well. It’s probably the one facet that will define the game. If Dallas forces Philadelphia to blow up, there’s a chance. As far as a hot take goes, I think this will be a backcourt battle with Dowdle rebounding strongly. (…) RJ: It’s hard to say how the question mark surrounding Jalen Hurts will continue. Ultimately, I think the Cowboys will probably lose in a tough battle, which will please Team Tank. In my opinion, CeeDee Lamb scored a hat trick of touchdowns in his final appearance of the 2024 calendar year.

The Miami Dolphins have decided to waive edge rusher Shaq Barrett – what happens next? – The Phinsider
The Shaq Barrett era with the Miami Dolphins is over after around nine months. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the franchise is removing the former Super Bowl champion from the reserve/retired list on Thursday. Barrett, who abruptly retired on July 20 after signing a one-year, $7 million deal with the Dolphins in March, will be eligible to play again this season – if he clears waivers on Friday. If a team claims Barrett, he will be ineligible to play this season.
