Eagles vs. Steelers Week 15 Match Preview and Predictions

Eagles vs. Steelers Week 15 Match Preview and Predictions

I think it’s dangerously good that the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Pittsburgh Steelers today.

“Dangerous” because that confidence could be misplaced given the potential pitfalls:

  • The Eagles were never able to beat Russell Wilson.
  • Mike Tomlin almost always finds a way to screw up a game and make it closer than expected, hence his best NFL record since signing as an underdog.
  • The Eagles have hardly been dominant at home this season.
  • The Eagles’ mood wasn’t exactly flawless after Week 14.

On that last point, however, I think the week worked out in the Eagles’ favor. I think it’s possible they channeled their frustrations in a positive way and are extra motivated to go out and beat the Steelers down. You could make a statement that leaves last week’s ugly victory far in the past.

All eyes will obviously be on the Eagles’ offense and, more specifically, their passing attack. Jalen Hurt’s holding on to the ball for long periods doesn’t seem to be a good recipe against Pittsburgh’s strong pass rush. His ball security will be seriously tested.

But I think the Eagles will be particularly interested in this matchup. And I would say that the Eagles offensive line can get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to winning their battles at the top. Hurts has the ability to play better than he did in Week 14. He will use the time he has to continually find AJ Brown in a squeaky wheel and improve performance.

The Steelers’ offense may struggle to score without George Pickens. Pittsburgh likes to pretend that Najee Harris is much better than him and won’t touch him. These carriers will be gifts for Vic Fangio’s defense. The challenge will be containing Wilson, who can still extend plays and make his signature moonballs further downfield. The Eagles are generally good and limit explosives. We’ll see if they continue like this here.

In a low-scoring game, special teams could make the difference. Chris Boswell is one of the best kickers in the NFL this season. Jake Elliott has been struggling and it seems like Nick Sirianni doesn’t fully trust him right now. However, there is a sense here that Elliott is expecting redemption.

Overall, I think the Eagles beat the Steelers. It’s hard to predict that they will pull it off easily, but I believe they will.
