ED White falls to Archbishop Shaw in the DII Select Championship

NEW ORLEANS – Either way, someone’s long Division II state championship title drought ended Friday afternoon. It was the No. 1 Archbishop Shaw Eagles (12-2) who prevailed over the third-seeded ED White Cardinals (11-3), 28-25, to capture the program’s first title since 1987 and just its second in school history secured.

The two teams were very evenly matched throughout the competition. They fought back to a 7-7 tie at the end of the first quarter, kept the score tied at 14-14 in the locker room, and with just nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, the teams were still within two touchdowns each stuck.

But in the fourth, back-to-back ASHS shots on goal put EDW within a two-point gap. Although the lead put in a tough drive in the final few minutes to stay competitive, in the end it just wasn’t enough.
