FOREPLAY

– I’m coming from Caesars Superdome, where Edna Karr is taking on Alexandria for the Division I Select state championship.

ABOUT EDNA KARR (13-0)

The Cougars are seeking their seventh championship in program history. They put together another dominant campaign, averaging 44.8 points and allowing 15 points.

Last week, however, the Cougars were put to the test in a thrilling semifinal against defending champion Catholic-Baton Rouge. But Edna Karr made it to the Caesars Superdome with a 21:19 victory.

ABOUT ALEXANDRIA (13-0)

Speaking of the Superdome, it’s a place Alexandria had not yet visited as of Saturday. The Trojans did make it to a state title game, but that was in 2020, when the Prep Classic was held at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But this season, Alexandria has defeated some of the state’s most recognizable brand names. Teams like Destrehan, Opelousas, Ruston and Neville in the regular season. Then in the postseason he defeated Evangel Christian, CE Byrd and last week a 24-13 win over John Curtis Christian in the semifinals.

Behind an offense led by LSU signee JT Lindsey, one of the top tailbacks in the country, the Trojans are averaging 48 points per game while their defense has allowed 21.3 points.
