Elon Musk reiterates that hashtags on X are “ugly” and useless, despite CEO Linda Yaccarino trying to make them trendy again

Elon Musk has once again expressed his disapproval of hashtags Xearlier TwitterHe described them as “ugly” and unnecessary.

What happened: Musk’s latest comment came in response to a post on X by another user who shared a screenshot of it Grok answered regarding hashtags.

Grok compared hashtags to a screen door on a submarine, implying that they are not useful on X. In response to the post, Musk said: “Please stop using hashtags. “The system no longer needs them and they look ugly.”

Why it matters: Musk’s statement is consistent with his previous criticism of hashtags, despite the efforts of X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino to restore their popularity on the platform.

Musk previously stated that hashtags could be the next feature to be phased out on X. He called hashtags a “relic of the past.”

He also openly said, “I hate hashtags,” which sparked a response from Chris Messinathe inventor of hashtags.

On the other hand, Yaccarino tried to revive the use of hashtags by posting “#wearesoback” in May last year.
