Emergency pothole repair on Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont closes northbound lanes

A pothole that formed Wednesday morning on Interstate 680 in Fremont has blocked northbound lanes as Caltrans crews make emergency repairs, authorities said.

The CHP Dublin office initially reported the large pothole in the right lane of northbound I-680 north of Via San Gabriel in Fremont around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday and posted about the problem on social media. Repairs to the pothole initially required the closure of the right and middle lanes as well as the nearby driveway.

A short time later, the left lanes were reopened, but the middle and right lanes and the driveway remained closed. Later Wednesday morning, CHP said repair work would require the median lane to be closed until 1 a.m. Thursday.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternative routes to avoid the area.
