ESPN presents E60 film about Boomer and Gunnar Esiason

Seventeen years after creating an Emmy-nominated 2007 edition E60 In which the network examined Boomer Esiason and his family battling cystic fibrosis, ESPN is picking up the story with a new film. Titled Second Wind: The Story of Boomer and Gunnar EsiasonThe presentation documents the family’s journey to use their own experiences with this genetic disease to create change and help others.

Boomer Esiason, a four-time Pro Bowl player and former NFL Most Valuable Player, has hosted Morning Drive on WFAN since 2007 and also recently completed 22 years as an analyst The NFL today on CBS Sports. In 1993, he founded the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which has raised more than $175 million to support the fight against this disease and the search for a cure. Esiason’s son Gunnar was 2 years old when he was diagnosed with the disease, which made it difficult to breathe through mucus-filled lungs.

This program features archival footage and interviews spanning approximately two decades and includes reporting by Jeremy Schaap. Members of Esiason’s family were interviewed for the broadcast, including NBC Sports analyst Cris Collinsworth, former Giants quarterback and CBS Sports colleague Phil Simms, and Boomer Esiason Foundation athlete Logan McGovern.

The film also includes perspectives from Dr. Frederick Van Goor and Dr. Emily DiMango and reveals advances in treatment and the challenges families face battling this disease. The latest edition of E60 The film was directed by Max Brodsky and produced by Ajay Atayee. Schaap recently appeared on Boomer & Gio to talk about the project and what it was like covering the story.

“When you think about the arc of this story over the last 30-plus years from Gunnar’s diagnosis to where we are now, it’s a remarkable story,” Schaap told Esiason. “It’s an incredible testament to your family, to your commitment to this cause, to the work that so many people and so many scientists have done, and it was definitely worth it – I mean, I’m biased, but I “I would say it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done.”

Esiason continues to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis to highlight the importance of finding a cure. He thanked Schaap for allowing him and his family to tell their story. The E60 The presentation is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, December 24th at 7pm EST on ESPN and will be available to stream on ESPN+ immediately thereafter.
