ESPN’s Adam Schefter clashes with a rival NFL reporter who made fun of his Pete Carroll story

ESPN’s Adam Schefter hit back at rival NFL reporter Mike Florio on Christmas Day for discrediting his story about Pete Carroll’s possible coaching comeback.

Schefter said that the 73-year-old Carroll is considering a return to the NFL and that the Chicago Bears, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints all need coaches of his pedigree.

Pro Football Talk’s Florio then mocked Schefter’s reporting, writing, “ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reports that Carroll wants to be back.”

“That means, frankly, that Carroll’s agent specifically told Schefter this in the hope that Schefter would make it known to the world in the hopes of generating public opinion.”

“Then Carroll’s agent will owe Schefter a lot.” And that’s how the sausage is made.

“It’s hard to blame Carroll’s agent for trying to use the media to publicize Carroll.” That’s the agent’s job. “However, it is not the job of the media to do PR for coaching candidates in return.”

Florio said that Schefter “in return does PR for coaching candidates.”

Schefter responded to Florio with an understandably curt response, saying on Christmas Day: “Everything you say here is 100 percent wrong. ‘Keep up the good work and wish you a Merry Christmas.’

In early December, Schefter also hit back at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball coach Doug Gottlieb.
