LANSING, MI – A daily routine that began years ago has finally paid off for a Wayne County man who recently won a $300,000 jackpot on the Michigan Lottery’s Make it Rein instant game.

“I stopped at the gas station to get coffee and an instant ticket like I have done every day for the last eight years,” said the 56-year-old winner, who wished to remain anonymous. “When I got back to my car, I scratched the ticket free and thought I had won $30,000. I spent the next half hour looking at the ticket until I finally went into the store to check it again.

“After the clerk scanned it, he handed it back and told me I hadn’t scratched off all the zeros. That’s when I realized I had actually won $300,000. I couldn’t believe it!”

The winner purchased their ticket at the Speedway at 37416 7 Mile Road in Livonia. When he visited the lottery headquarters in Lansing to collect his prize, the winner said he planned to use the money to buy a new car, put some money into his children’s college fund and invest the rest.

For current information about the Michigan Lottery, visit the official Michigan Lottery website. There you will also find further information about instant tickets, raffles and other lottery games.

The last Michigan player to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was lottery club Breakfast Club, which won an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s wise for players to check their tickets immediately because a $1 million Mega Millions winner sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s school aid fund.
