Facebook, Instagram and Threads are down

A number of meta apps are currently unavailable. For many employees The edgeApps like Facebook and Instagram were not loading or, if they were, showing older posts. Threads seem to recover, although it sometimes loads slowly for me.

“We are aware that a technical issue is affecting some users’ access to our apps,” Meta says on X. “We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Downdetector shows large and sudden spikes for Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, suggesting this a lot of people are affected by the outages. The Instagram Downdetector page, for example, shows a peak of more than 70,000 reports of problems with the platform. The Facebook peak exceeded 100,000.

This major outage follows another major meta outage in March that brought down Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Meta also experienced a major outage on Instagram and Facebook in October 2022.
