Fans react to Huskers playing Hawkeyes

Local football fans prepared for the rivalry game of the season on Friday as the Huskers took on the Hawkeyes. While the game started slowly, fans waited for the final crucial moments. There was a quiet scene at Let it Fly as football fans waited for the teams to enter the pitch. “The Hawkeyes will dominate today and we will bring home the championship trophy,” said Hawkeye fan Matt Fedders. Others like Ryker, Rylee and Mia felt that the Huskers would rule. “They have so much energy and do a great job,” Rylee said. Long tubes full of beer meant pre-gaming started early as fans like Nick Anderson and Ryan Roberts hoped the Huskers would come through for them. “Midway through the season was a little questionable, but when Dana Holgorsen came in and then they moved guys in the right spots, I was excited about Nate Johnson last week,” Anderson said. Across state lines in Iowa, the Huskers took on the Oskies, but the few Hawkeyes in the room, like Jake and Jeff, held their own, especially against Jake’s brother Cole, who was wearing Husker gear. They were asked if there was any tension between them. “No, not too much,” Jake said. “They’re brothers, so they don’t like each other anyway,” Jeff jumped in. The bitter rivals got off to a slow start on the pitch, leaving fans like Amy Grove desperate for something to happen. “We kicked and took names, and we need that,” Grove said. As the game continued, the drinks kept coming, but the touchdowns didn’t come. This was something the Davis family expected. “It usually comes down to the last few minutes,” Christine Davis said. “But we will win,” her husband Sean added. The rivalry makes it their favorite game of the year. “They’re both just up to the challenge and it’s such a great rivalry across state lines,” Christine said. For others, it will be the defining moment of what is to come. “If we can keep the game rolling for all four quarters and win our bowl game, I think that says a lot about our future,” Roberts said.
