Fantastic PlayStation tribute to Vegas Sphere puts Astro Bot in the spotlight

To mark PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Sony has invested in a Vegas Sphere tribute that puts the spotlight right on it AstroBot. Given that the Team Asobi platformer recently won the prestigious Game of the Year 2024 award, this seems all too likely AstroBot is PlayStation’s newest mascot.

As if the widespread applause wasn’t enough, AstroBot PlayStation also won the coveted Game of the Year award at the 2024 Game Awards, capping PlayStation’s 30th anniversary with a bang. Right on your heels AstroBotWhen Game of the Year was awarded, PlayStation fans saw a celebration of the brand’s 30th anniversary, which had recently taken over the Vegas Sphere. The eye-catching, one-and-a-half-minute commercial is featured prominently AstroBot Dancing between different PlayStation iconography, face shapes and the PS5 itself. Towards the end, the entire Vegas Sphere mimics the look of AstroBot‘s helmet and eyes, wink at the audience one last time before finally fading out.

Vegas Sphere celebrates 30 years of PlayStation with Astro Bot

The Vegas Sphere ad is somewhat unexpected and probably very expensive, but it’s still a great icing on the cake for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Sony first announced the PlayStation celebrations in September 2024 with custom PS1-style 30th anniversary PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, and PlayStation Portal remote players. On December 3, Sony released a 30th anniversary tribute video highlighting several of the most iconic PlayStation franchises and thanking fans for their continued support.

It is also worth noting that the focus on AstroBot in PlayStation’s Vegas Sphere ad seems entirely intentional, especially after the platformer’s big wins at the 2024 Game Awards. It wouldn’t be too surprising if PlayStation started getting into it AstroBot as a de facto mascot for the future, as the character is family friendly, easily marketable and well received in numerous games. The future for both AstroBot and Team Asobi is looking pretty good.
