Final result Pistons vs. Kings: Jaden Ivey’s 4-point play in the final seconds completes the unlikely comeback

The Detroit Pistons scored 31 points in the final seven minutes, including a game-winning four-point play from Jaden Ivey with 3.1 seconds left to give the Sacramento Kings a 114-113 victory.

The Pistons’ comeback was fueled by three 3-pointers from Malik Beasley in the fourth quarter, which gave them a shot if they could break through and get a stop or two. They made the crucial stops and cut the lead to one on a three-pointer from Beasley, making it 109-108 with 1:04 left.

Detroit played smart, committed defense and forced a three-pointer from Trey Lyles. Cade Cunningham took the ball and attempted an iso in the paint but couldn’t hit his 11-foot jump shot.

That put the ball in De’Aaron Fox’s hands. Fox, who exploded in the fourth quarter and appeared to be the game’s savior until Ivey ripped the Kings’ heart out, then calmly hit a dirty 14-foot jump shot to extend the lead to three, 111-108, with 19 seconds remaining.

Instead of waiting for a three-pointer, the Pistons decided to move quickly and use the open court to give Ivey an easy two-pointer, who easily connected. The Kings got two free throws from Kevin Heuerter and the Pistons had just over 10 seconds left to try to tie the game with a three-pointer.

Detroit tried to put the ball in Beasley’s hands for the game-winning shot, but the Kings obviously had a defensive plan that was anything but Beasley. Beasley passed in the corner to Ivey, who tried to evade the collapsing defender and loft the shot.

Ivey released the ball, absorbed the contact and sank the shot. He then went to the charity jersey and hit the game-winning free throw that gave the Pistons their third straight win. Ivey finished the game with 19 points and Beasley had 22 off the bench.

It is the team’s first three-game winning streak since 2021.

The Pistons were led by Cade Cunningham with 33 points and 10 assists. Cunningham did most of his damage in the first half as Detroit was lethargic on both ends and Cade was testing the team.

Fox, who had five points early in the second quarter, finished with 26 to lead the Kings.

Sacramento was without star center Domantas Sabonis due to illness, but who needs Sabonis when you have Trey Lyles?

Lyles, a true Pistons killer, scored 20 points, four three-pointers and eight rebounds.
