The fire occurred about a week and a half after another fire torched part of the festive Herald Square shopping corridor on Broadway between West 35th Street and West 36th Street.

The fire destroyed 18 stores that sold everything from bratwurst to glass jewelry to T-shirts, according to an online fundraiser supporting vendors.
