First day of alert on Thursday due to moderate snowfall

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Thursday was the day we’ve been talking about all week and due to the potential for snowfall there is now a first weather alert day. This will be the largest snowfall south of Highway 64 this snow season. Some breezy winds will also blow snow around, and snowfall will be heavy enough to accumulate on the roads at times. Snow totals could be as high as 4 to 6 inches in some communities, with snow totals even higher in some communities. The heaviest snowfall will occur between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The snowfall should stop by the time you drive to work Friday morning.

Road conditions should improve by the end of the week and into this weekend, but it will also be cold outside. Highs will be in the upper teens and low 20s, with lows in the single digits Saturday and Sunday mornings, respectively.

It will be less cloudy this weekend. Travel is not expected to be a problem.

Mild air will return to north central Wisconsin by the middle of next week, meaning the chances of us having a white Christmas will be fairly low, even with snowfall expected this weekend. It won’t be as warm as the 50s we had at Christmas last year, but some of us could see temperatures in the upper 30s or lower 40s by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day next week.
