This lasts until midday on Tuesday, but it is very likely that it could be extended depending on what is happening at the moment. Here’s what’s going on when you walk out the door. Much of the south coast is still on the dry side. BUT LOOK, WE HAVE VERY HEAVY RAIN THIS MORNING ON THE NORTH COAST OVERLOOKING TANGIPAHOA AND WASHINGTON PARISHES. THAT’S WHAT’S GOING ON. SO INDEPENDENCE, YOU SEE SOME OF THE RAIN. BUT FRANKLINTON, JUST SOUTH OF YOU YOU WILL SEE ABSOLUTELY A LOT OF RAIN. Look at your rain rates. PINE CLIFF, WITH A FALL OF ABOUT 15 INCHES IN ONE HOUR. So it ALWAYS rains very heavily. VIEW OF THE SOUTH COAST. We’re starting to see a few showers popping up. So, Lafitte, there’s about to be a little shower in Bel Air. DELACRO JUST ABOVE YOU AND THEN HOPEDALE. YOU ARE NEXT TO SOME OF THESE POP-UPS HAPPENING. So NOW we are starting to see more and more rain as the morning gets deeper. SLIDELL EDEN ISLE is still seeing a few light showers as you drive along the interstate and then through the River Parishes. They also plan to take a few lighter showers. I don’t expect any of this to be serious, just a nuisance. Since you’re heading out this morning. Windshield wipers probably at this medium speed. BUT IF YOU’RE CLOSE TO INDEPENDENCE AGAIN ON THE NORTH COAST, YOU’RE NOW FACING HIGH WINDSHIELD SPEED. So as the morning progresses, we expect the intensity to continue to increase. We will also see some training. So basically it rains in the same areas over and over again. And that will lead to some flooding. A flash flood likely today. That’s why our eyes are on New Orleans this morning. AND THEN AT 5 P.M. SOME OF US WILL TAKE A BREAK. SO THE evening commute could be rainy for you. IT SIMPLY DEPENDS on where you are and how the rest of the rain develops for the rest of the day. We’ll have a break tonight. FOR TOMORROW MORNING. There’s a chance we’ll see a few scattered showers, but Tuesday evening it looks like we’ll see another round of storms. Heavy rain is coming again. NOTHING IS EXPECTED TO BE DIFFICULT. That’s not the point. The concern will be flooding. SO THE FRONT WILL GO THROUGH TUESDAY AND THEN EXPECT SOME WINDY CONDITIONS ON WEDNESDAY. IT WILL ALSO BE MUCH COOLER. Highs on Wednesday will only reach into the 50s. So a big difference. So back to the rain. WE’RE LOOKING AT ABOUT 1 TO 3 INCHES. BUT COULD ALSO SEE UP TO 12 INCHES IN A FEW PLACES. AGAIN IF THERE IS STILL RAINING. So when we look at the risk of flash flooding today, we have the same thing for tomorrow. THAT’S WHY IMPACT DAY ALSO APPLIES TO TOMORROW. So as you head out the door this morning, know that it’s mild. That’s about 15 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. So be aware that you will still need the jacket throughout the day, but the raincoat is probably the best choice as you can expect rain showers throughout the day. However, the temperatures will hardly change where we are right now. Basically where we will be later in the day. WARM IT UP, MAYBE A FEW DEGREES, BUT THAT WILL WARM IT UP. The lows for this evening will also be rather mild. LOW 60S, MID 60S ON THE SOUTH COAST FOR YOU. We’re usually in our 40s. Rain chances will take a break as we enter Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Today is WDSU First Warning Weather Impact Day as flash flooding is expected today and Tuesday. We’ll see a few morning showers, but expect heavier rain by mid-morning. This continues into the afternoon and evening. There will be a short break this evening, with some showers returning on Tuesday morning. The rain will increase in intensity on Tuesday evening, creating a further risk of flooding. Rainfall amounts are expected to be in the 2 to 3 inch range. Visibility of up to 5 inches could be achieved in some areas. Highs for today and Tuesday will be in the low 70s. Temperatures will not drop until the front passes through Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday, highs will only be in the low to mid 50s and skies will be mostly sunny. There may be patches of frost on the north coast from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. By the weekend, highs will warm back above average to the upper 60s and lower 70s.
