FC Bayern Munich said goodbye to the winter break with a goal festival with Konrad Laimer. The league leaders defeated RB Leipzig 5-1 (3-1) in front of home fans on Friday at the start of the 15th round in the German Bundesliga. ÖFB team player Laimer scored Bayern’s first league goal of the current season with the landmark goal to make it 2-1 in the 25th minute.

DFB super talent Jamal Musiala had given the hosts the lead in the first minute in front of around 75,000 spectators in Munich’s Allianz Arena, before Benjamin Sesko equalized for Leipzig just a few seconds later. Only with Laimer and his goal to take the lead again did calm return to Bavaria’s ranks.

Joshua Kimmich increased the score to 3-1 in the 36th minute, and after the break, Leroy Sane (75th) and Alphonso Davies (78th) ensured a clear front. In the table, Bayern initially lead seven points ahead of their pursuers Bayer Leverkusen and nine points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt. After their fourth defeat of the season, Leipzig ranked fourth on equal points.

Fastest 1:1 in league history

Musiala’s opening goal for Bayern after 29 seconds and Sesko’s equalizer after 103 seconds create a novelty in the German Bundesliga. For the first time, both teams scored in the first two minutes. After the fastest 1-1 draw in league history, the hosts showed the reaction coach Vincent Kompany had hoped for.

The ex-Leipzig player Laimer, who was happy about the birth of his first child the day before the game, set the course for Bayern’s next home win at the end of the year with a volley after a one-two with Michael Olise. Laimer scored his only goal of the season for Bayern in the Champions League in a 5-1 away win against Shakhtar Donetsk two weeks ago.

Laimer was replaced in the 69th minute, while Christoph Baumgartner, Austria’s newly crowned Footballer of the Year, and Nicolas Seiwald played through on the other side. Xaver Schlager was in action until the 74th minute.

Preliminary decision by Kimmich

Kimmich’s 3-1 win was symptomatic of Leipzig’s poor defensive work. Musiala played to the Munich midfielder, who also once played for Leipzig, who made the break unchallenged from over 20 meters.

RB coach Marco Rose, who recently managed to turn things around in the league season with two wins, reacted in the second half with a system change. The former Salzburg coach switched from a three-man to a four-man chain. But Bayern continue to score the goals.
