The Utes initially traded Clegg, a two-time All-State 6A player at defensive end and tight end, in a senior year from Stanford when the former ESPN Top 300 recruit was the Cavemen’s third-best prospect in Utah.

After recording 61 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks as a senior, Clegg headed off on his overseas mission. Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley, now named the Utes’ future head coach, even attended his missionary send-off.

But Clegg returns to a different kind of college football, where the Utes and Cougars are back in the same conference – the Big 12 – and Stanford finds itself in the ACC after the Pac-12 effectively exploded following the departures of USC, UCLA, Oregon are and Washington to the Big Ten.

Clegg is the 18th member of the Cougars’ 2025 recruiting class, previously highlighted by Rivals four-star wide receiver LaMason Waller of Hesperia, Calif., and Lone Peak offensive lineman Austin Pay, who will previously serve a two-year church mission Enrolling at BYU.

He signed with BYU on the same day that former Bountiful defenseman Anisi Purcell was committed to BYU through the transfer portal. The 6-foot-3, 266-pound defensive end totaled 39 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in three seasons at Southern Utah before entering the transfer portal on Dec. 9 with two years of eligibility remaining.
