Former lawmaker slams MSNBC hosts for meeting Trump at Mar-a-Lago: ‘It’s not possible’

Former lawmaker and MSNBC analyst David Jolly appeared to attack MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Friday as he discussed how Democrats should move forward.

“We didn’t wake up after the election and think, ‘I’m upset because I was wrong. We are upset because we know we are right, but we are on the losing side of this fight. And what happens?’ “That means for a responsible media, for a responsible electorate, for a responsible Democratic Party in this environment?” Jolly began. “Don’t just say we’re going to get justice for Donald Trump, which is what some people in the Democratic Party, in the media and among voters are doing.”

Brzezinski and Scarborough revealed to their viewers that the couple met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in the weeks following his win.

“No, that is absolutely wrong. You can’t do that. Forgive me for saying this. You can’t go to Mar-a-Lago. You can’t do that. This will get me in trouble. You can do that.” Don’t do that. They must hold Donald Trump accountable for his wrongs. “You must hold all of his allies accountable for his wrongs, even if that means putting yourself in a losing situation and endangering your own freedom and security as an American,” Jolly said.

Scarborough and Brzezinski said during the show that it was time to deal with Trump.

“But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denial, public trials and January 6th were not as important as the issues that motivated them to vote to send Donald Trump back to the White House. Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different.” “And that starts with not just talking about Donald Trump, but with him,” Brzezinski said.

Brzezinski and Scarborough have been among Trump’s biggest media critics in recent years. Trump said after the meeting that it went well.

Brzezinski said during a podcast interview that she was surprised by the backlash to their meeting.

“I was surprised by the backlash, and from what I see, people are really scared,” she said on The Daily Beast Podcast. “That’s one of the reasons we went in there, because people are very afraid of Donald Trump’s statements about political opponents, a lot of people are afraid of what happened with abortion. These are all issues that are important to me and to some.” Personal to me, but definitely personal to the people I really care about.

Jolly encouraged Democrats to make a “double effort” to hold Trump accountable.

“The only answer is to hold Donald Trump and his allies even more accountable and to try harder to present a democracy that represents all people, even in a losing environment,” he said.
