Former Milwaukee Brewers Mike Brosseau Signs With 1 NL West Team (Report)

Former Milwaukee Brewers infielder Mike Brosseau has reportedly signed a contract with a National League West team. Brosseau, who last played in the major leagues in 2023, will seek a comeback, while elsewhere the player Milwaukee originally gave up to sign via trade in 2021 is currently on a 40-man roster.

Joe Rosen, an agent with Icon Sports Management, confirmed that Mike Brosseau has signed with the San Diego Padres. Although the details of the contract were not disclosed, it is likely that the deal is a minor league contract as Brosseau played in the minor leagues last season with both the Royals and Mets.

In November 2021, the Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a deal that sent Mike Brosseau to the Midwest and pitching prospect Evan Reifert to the South. Brosseau bounced back and forth between the major and minor leagues for two years with the Brew Crew, eventually getting the opportunity to play in Japan in 2023. He returned to the United States last year and broke out in the Mets’ farm system with an .809 OPS with 15 home runs in 93 Triple-A games.

Two former Milwaukee Brewers pitchers were selected in this year’s Rule 5 draft. Shane Smith was the first player acquired from the Chicago White Sox, and Evan Reifert was subsequently acquired from the Nationals. Reifert has excellent swing and miss skills, particularly with his slider, but will need to utilize his control to succeed at the MLB level in 2025.
