Former Oregon linebacker Jaxson Jones has committed to Utah

Former Oregon linebacker Jaxson Jones has announced his commitment to the University of Utah, marking a new chapter in his college football career. Jones, a former three-star recruit in the class of 2024, was a standout player at Yuma Catholic High School in Arizona, where he was ranked as the No. 7 player in the state and No. 31 EDGE nationally. His impressive high school performances earned offers from top programs including Michigan, USC and several Pac-12 schools, eventually leading to commitments to Washington and then Oregon in his first recruitment.

At 1.90 meters tall and weighing 110 kilograms, Jones brings versatility and potential as a linebacker and edge rusher. His attitude was a testament to his talent as he picked up offers from programs like Arizona State, Cal and Fresno State. Although Jones only appeared in one game during his short time at Oregon, he remains a promising prospect with the tools to make an impact at the college level.

Kyle Whittingham channels the NBA legend with a five-word statement

Utah has special meaning for Jones as his father, Daniel Jones, played wide receiver for the Utes from 1997 to 1998. This family connection makes his transfer to Utah a homecoming of sorts and adds to the excitement surrounding his commitment. For a Utah team coming off a disappointing 5-7 season, Jones’ arrival could provide a much-needed boost to a defense known for its physicality and aggressive play under head coach Kyle Whittingham.

Utah’s Cameron Calhoun reportedly offered to “almost double” NIL before he left.

Jones’ mix of size, athleticism and pass-rushing ability makes him a strong candidate to compete for playing time in Utah’s rotation. As the Utes look to rebound in 2025, his signing falls in line with their efforts to rebuild and strengthen their roster. Joining a program known for developing defensive talent, Jones has an excellent opportunity to hone his skills and take on a significant role in the coming seasons.
