Freezing drizzle will blow in the north this evening

The latest from Storm Team 5…

The biggest concern across the region is the persistent freezing drizzle in the Northwoods this evening, with temperatures still below freezing.

A winter weather advisory warning of slippery areas is in effect for Marinette, Menominee, Oconto and Shawano counties until 9 p.m. tonight. Temperatures beyond that should begin to warm above freezing.

Foggy skies continue to dominate northeast Wisconsin, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be going away any time soon. The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog warning for our area through midday Friday, but that will most likely be extended through Saturday as areas of fog will continue.

Now as far as rainfall is concerned, further isolated showers are expected to move into the area this evening. Temperatures will remain fairly consistent tonight, with the coolest being in the mid 30s in the north and closer to the 40s in the rest by the time we reach the commute tomorrow.

Occasional showers may continue Friday morning. It looks like it will be fairly calm midday, but more widespread, steady showers will occur Friday afternoon, evening and into the night. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

On Saturday we will see the precipitation partially dissipate through the morning, and where some cool air returns to north central and central WI, there could be some wet snowflakes, but accumulation does not appear likely. Rainfall totals will range from a quarter to three-quarters of an inch. Dry weather Saturday afternoon, highs into the lower to mid 40s.

Sunday will be a beautiful day, mostly cloudy and high temperatures around 40°C. Temperatures drop at the start of the new year.
